RDM 201: Advanced SQL

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The RDM 101 training course provides basic good practices for managing research data, including organizing raw data in spreadsheets and databases, data manipulation, data checking, and data validation. Simple and routinely used SQL queries were also introduced for routine data manipulation. But SQL is more powerful than that.

In the RDM 201 training course, some advanced functions and queries that can be useful when building more complex applications will be introduced. It will refresh participants on basic database management skills by defining and looking at the structure of the (preferred) relational model as compared to the hierarchical model of handling data. Participants will also be taught to identify denormalized data and correct data redundancy up to the third normal form (3NF).

TARGET PARTICIPANTS:

Intended participants are those who attended the Research Data Management 101 basic training course.
